Black-figured Panathenian amphora dated 400 B.C with a lid. These vases given us prizes to the winners of the great Panathenae (athletic events like the Olympic games every four years but held only in Athens and only Athenians could participate. One one side we see Athena (goddess of wisdom, patron goddess of Athens) between two columns on which we see roosters which symbolize the athletic spirit. On the other side we see wrestlers (which means that the vase was given a prize to the winner of wrestling) with a judge on the side. The vase was made and painted by hand with the ancient technique of reduction by J.Kyromitis in 2000. The vase is dated and signed by the artist.
